Biography
Mari Puri Herrero was born in Bilbao in 1942. She began her artistic career in the Ascensio Martiarena workshop in Donostia. At the age of 16, he moved to Madrid to receive drawing and painting classes at the Círculo de Bellas Artes and at the Prado Museum. During his stay in Madrid he began to work with linoleum and etching. Later he lived in Amsterdam and Paris for periods in which he was able to discover other artistic currents. Upon his return to Bilbao, he began an intense exhibition activity at both a national and European level. This has led her to become one of the most popular figures in Basque artistic culture. In 1978 he created Marijaia, the emblematic figure of Bilbao's Aste Nagusia.
He has worked and researched in different artistic fields, masterfully standing out in painting with a loose brushstroke of Impressionist roots and in engraving, where he uses different techniques (etching, linoleum, woodcut...) depending on his plastic needs.
