Alejandra Oviedo was born in Bogotá, Colombia. She is a visual artist whose work focuses on drawing and embroidering stories from her everyday life, places, objects, and people. She has been deeply influenced by her country's culture, its colors, textures, music, food, and people. Embroidery has taught her much; it taught her patience, the power to express herself with thread, how to meet new people, how to meditate, and how to dedicate time to nurturing and discovering her inner self. She teaches illustration and embroidery at Casatinta and experiments with materials beyond thread, such as paper and metal. She also enjoys drawing in the sand and then erasing it with her feet.
