Third week and almost last in Mexico. Time is elastic; it can feel both long and short at the same time. Maybe it's best not to choose ground floor rooms, just a little tip.

I've continued my research on the masks here, one a small version adapted from a paper cup, and the other, more elaborate one, using a mask I bought from Anonimus that I thought might resemble mine. I customized it with papier-mâché, then filled it with plaster, and then covered it with more paper. It's coming along nicely, but I still want to make a giant one, perhaps with a clay mold.

Varya and I took a "romantic" getaway to Nayarit, to a beach called Guayabitos. It's very popular and full of Mexican families, which was quite intense because we decided to go on a weekend.

They sell you everything there; people walk around with skewers of shrimp and fish smothered in red sauce all day long, balloons, coconuts—you name it. Luckily, past a small mountain, there was a less crowded and wilder beach, and we quickly made it our home.

Well, it had a beach bar and palm trees and dry trees blending into the landscape. I saw two pufferfish, one alive and one dead, and a loggerhead sea turtle came ashore, creating quite a stir, but already bloated and without feet, poor thing.

The colony of wild dogs that live there is also quite charming, and especially the birds. So many frigate gulls that look like Batman dinosaurs, pterodactyls, and lots of adorable pelicans, like a bald man with hair, like an old baby.

They're clumsy on the sand, but when they fly, they all go at the same speed, forming sharp triangulations worthy of the armed forces. We chose a budget hotel because we liked the orange and blue of the facade. They gave us a ground floor room, and on the first day, the door wouldn't close. It just wouldn't close, and crack! We'd squashed something. Panic! Was it a spider? We'd killed a giant white crab by pinching it with the iron door.
The buses in Mexico are truly luxurious; they even have individual screens. We're sad to leave; I don't think we'll be able to fit everything we'd like to take in our suitcases, but we'll figure something out.
