IRUDIKA RESIDENCES 2026 | CHAPTER 08.

y

Our last week in Mexico was packed; we visited Chucho’s workshop with CAZ (amaizing!), and then we went on a trip with the other residents to two craft markets near Zapopan: the one in Tonalá, where we bought loads of alebrijes and various gifts, and also the one in Tlaquepaque, one of the so-called ‘magical towns’, where we also found some really cool handcrafted figures, masks and paper dolls. Time to work a bit more and then it’s time to say goodbye and pack up again; it’s lovely to meet so many new people, but it’s a shame to part ways so soon.

We’ve teleported to Bilbao; for me, this time with some crazy jet lag, due to the eight-hour time difference. It’s taken me about four days to settle into a normal routine, and well, Bilbao is cool too. It gives me a sense of architectural solidity, and I love the houses with loads of verandas. It’s full of hills and it rains every day – typical of the north – that’s the price you pay for such green hills :)

The Bilbaoarte workshop is really good; the only thing is that we might not have time to get the most out of the workshops, because it’s practically two weeks and they fly by. At the weekend we made the most of it and also visited the beach and an incredible spot, the Salto del Nervión, the source of the river that flows through Bilbao.
