Shereen Quttaineh
Palestina

Shereen Quttaineh

She grew up around art – a home filled with endless choices to choose from:  acrylic, oil and watercolors, clay, mounds of yarn, piles of material and spools of colorful thread. She was excited to see the patterns and textures, always “borrowing” her mother’s materials (and sewing machine) wanting to unleash the maker in me and share in the joy of creating.  Her project Forbidden Palestinian flora finds life in thread and tatreez, each stitch a testament to memory, resilience, and the subtle revolt of staying rooted under occupation.
